When in ROme.......dine here

Poldo e Gianna Osteria
Vicola Rosini 6/7

This has to be one of the great finds of true homemade food, with a new Italian flair, it was perfecto. Honestly everything we touched was outstanding. I not being a foodie actually had dreams over this food and the presentation and preparation.

Its on a tiny, hard to find street, but worth it all, its more for upscale locals who know what good food is. The atmosphere is also beautiful and all pristine white, so the food presentation really shows up well.

The father and son owners were delightful. I can't wait to go back to ROme, to mainly dine here..

Let me know if you go here,

Dallas BBQ

This is a small NYC chain, I like the one in Harlem best on Broadway and 165th St..It's across from Columbia Presbyterian Hospital....You can eat outside, inside or in the atrium....It always a happy place, a go to place when you want fun and a lively crowd..The wait staff is great, always great music, tv's with sports on..

The food is wonderful, from ribs, to bbq chicken, to veggies, shrimp, chicken soup, everything and almost anything..

The drinks are huge outrageous and fun..

GOTTA LOVE IT HERE.  Fyi...the cornbread amazing

REHOBOTH BEACH, DELEWARE

Rehoboth, Deleware, a beach community on the shores of Deleware, its very hard to describe what this town is and what it isn't. There is no real strong personality here, yet it has everything to offer.

What bothered me most were the local people, mostly from the Washington, DC area, all coming in for the week ends acting as if this was some great hot spot or secret hideaway, it was neither. The real locals in town seem to be imported from Bulgaria to serve as wait staff and maids etc. Not sure why college students were not here working for summer jobs at a beach resort.

The other locals were still people who did not grow up in this town, but began coming many moons ago, and decided to buy a small house and stay. I didn't find the locals overly friendly..

The GAY community was a lot better, it was small  sort of a mini, Fire Island, or Ptown, or Key West, but it was not a really alive fun gay community, but they were nice, friendly and great to be around, and very helpful about restaurants etc.

The amusements, were there and not a "jersey feel" also more calm and bland with a "wanna be" honky tonk feel....

The shopping was very nice, lots of boutiques and better quality items to look at, but mostly conservative and not fashion forward.

The restaurants get great reviews with celebrity chefs etc. we did not find them all that great or a vibe that made us want to run back. The food was good in all the places, just not over the top special.

The hotels and motels were all fine, a few a bit more special than others, but nothing like OMG, this was fantastic

What was really missing was a vibe, a scene, music in the air and warmth and super friendly feeling. It was like "stepford version" of what going to a beach vacation was like. It was all very clean, quiet, grainy sandy beaching... Just not exciting.. BTW after 10PM its gets very quiet, but safe

I would say this is a great destination for a family vacation, it has all the ingredients for a week away at the beach, but no real charm...

Hotels I recommend

Bellmore.... stuffy but nice, good location you can walk to the beach, or they will drive you in a golf cart. Probably most upscale hotel in area

Boardwalk Plaza Hotel... on the beach a bit touristy but ocean view

The Avenue.... new and close to the beach, works well

WHERE TO DINE IN NEWARK< DELEWARE

TAVERNA
121 MAIN STREET
NEWARK, DELEWARE

I am so not a foodie, I always rave about the scene and atmosphere, this place had it all. The food was sooooo good, I literally wanted more, I had an eggplant dish that was outstanding. The crowd was upscale, and very nice, our waitress was so FANTASTIC and FRIENDLY and answered alot of questions, the manager stopped by to see if we were happy.  The place is lovely to sit in with a rustic feel.

The menu was so interesting, things like eggplant caponata, whipped sweet ricotta with drizzeled balsamic...coal fired pizzas, all kinds of combos, then ahi tuna salad was delightful, linguini and mussles, but it was all farm fresh and served beautifully. I could go on and on about the food, which is so not me

Honestly I will find a way to get back to this very special restaurant. It was perfect..

HARLEM DOES IT AGAIN

CHERI  a french bistro
231 Lenox Avenue  at 121 Street
New York, New York

212-662-4374

First impressions are the best, they stick with you always, and are hard to change. As we approached CHERI we felt a sense of Paris before us. The front entrance to this beautiful brownstone was small and warm and welcoming and a wonderful place to sit and chat and watch the world go bye. Then we entered the restaurant and what a surprise, it was beautiful , every appointment was meaningful and so Parisian, it was cozy and lovely, with different small dining areas, and in the center was a huge impressive black baby grand piano with a chandelier above it, and 2 high back chairs in front of a fireplace, with an old movie playing. It brought you back to a different time and era.

Then the shocker, a gorgeous huge glassed in green garden in the back for a larger dining area, it was lovely with palms and ferns, and in truth who would have thought this magical find was in Harlem..... More and more of these wonders are arriving daily in Harlem.

The food was well prepared and the service was relaxed and not at the usual NY pace, so it took some time getting used to this, but worth it to  transcend us to Paris for the night. Each dish was unique and very French with a twist, I recommend you view the partial menu on the provided link.

I loved the warm rolls, and interesting salad with smoked salmon and chopped apples on the not your usual lettuces. The wines were great as well.

There is live music each night, we happened upon 2 cabaret singers, singing French songs that brought tears to our eyes, they are there each Thursday night.

We met Alain, the owner, who is from Paris and lives in the town home that incorporates this restaurant. He was so friendly and happy we came, he said its was on purpose that his bistro was in his home, as its an extension of how he feels about sharing Paris with New York and welcoming every one to his home and kitchen . Some of the other staff were also from France and one was from a beautiful island near France, Corsica, and she brought her local charm with her.

This is a definite place to visit and get to know the place and menu and the ambiance Alain has brought to Harlem from his beloved Paris, where he has owned several known restaurants..

Hope to see you there
